These restoration types are used to repair decayed or damaged teeth. Prefabricated inlays of composite, porcelain or gold have a precise fit, making it easier to clean tooth. An onlay also protects the tooth's weak areas.
Best results achieved with bonding, fantastic for minimal prep restorations, pressed and stained for superior fit and contour. No layering - once these are bonded they are strong and aesthetical with a low risk of failure provided a 0.8mm thickness is adhered to.
Due to the high translucency, they are NOT recommended for badly discolored preparations, particularly where veneers are concerned.
